1. Dubai Frame, Dubai
Situated in Zaabeel Park, this is the latest addition to the golden monuments of the world. The gigantic frame measures 150*105 metres and highlights some of the tourist attractions of the city from either side. Just like the Eiffel Tower, an elevator will take you to the top of the frame, thus giving a breath-taking view of the city. The golden cladding acts as an icing on the cake for this structure.
2. Museo del Oro, Colombia
The Museo del Oro or the Gold Museum is located in Bogota. It is a major tourist pitstop owing to its collection of over 55,000 gold objects from pre-Hispanic Colombia. It is considered to be the largest collection of gold in the world with a variety of items on display like animals, female fertility figures, gold offerings used in ceremonies and culture – thus being one stop shop for an insight into various cultures.
3. Buddha Dordenma, Bhutan
The Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue that took almost 10years to complete. The statue is made in bronze and gilded in gold. It is one of the largest Buddha rupas with a height of 169 feet. The cost of constructing this project was US $100million.
4. Golden Pyramid, Illinois
Built in 1977 in a private home of an Armenian garage builder, the Golden Pyramid House was the largest 24 Karat gold plated object ever created. The lavish private pyramid home is spread across a 17,000 square foot structure with a replica of King Tut’s tomb. It’s also said that the property houses a triple-pyramid garage with a 64feet tall statue of Ramses.
5. Golden Temple, India
Situated in the state of Punjab, Golden Temple can be found in the city of Amritsar.
In 1830, the Golden Temple was coated with 162kg of gold that approximately costed US $82,000. It was touched up in the 90s with 500kg of 24 Karat gold that approximately is US $17million. The refurbishing of the Golden Temple went on for four years through which it was layered twenty-four times. This temple was founded by the fourth Sikh Guru – Ram Das Sahib!
6. Wat Traimit, Thailand
Known as the Phra Phuttha Maha Suwanna Patimakon, the Golden Buddha statue is a 5.5 tonne statue of a seated Buddha that is a mandatory stops for tourists around the world. The statue is 9.8feet tall, contains 5500kg 18Karat gold and is made entirely of gold. As of today, the gold used in the state is worth USD $300million. The origins of the statue is unknown but historians have traced it back to the 13th-14th centuries.
7. Dome Of The Rock, Israel
The Dome of the Rock is situated in the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. The site is also known as al-Haram al-Sharif or Al-Aqsa compound. This dome’s construction goes back to 688-692, but has collapsed and been rebuilt over the years. Did you know, the Dome of the Rock is the world’s oldest surviving work of Islamic architecture?
8. The Grand Palace, Thailand
Another monument from Thailand that is considered as the crème de la crème of all the tourist attractions in the city. Situated at the heart of the city, it is one of the most famous landmarks besides being a royal residence for centuries. The interior of the palace is said to be as exquisite as the golden guardsmen who protect it.
9. Church of La Compañía, Ecuador
The Church and Convent of San Ignacio de Loyola de la Compañía de Jesús de Quito (La Compañía) is a Catholic Church in Ecuador. The church is carved in volcanic stone. Also known as the Temple of Solomon of South America, the interior of the church is covered in gold sheets that boasts both artistic and economic richness of the country. The construction of La Compañía started in 1597.
